Bessel A. van der Kolk, M.D.
Bessel A. van der Kolk, M.D., is associate professor of psychiatry at Boston University Medical School and director of the Trauma Center of the Arbour Health System. He is the author of Traumatic Stress: The Effects of Overwhelming Experience on Mind, Body, and Society (Guilford Press, 1996). He was co-principal investigator for field studies that led to inclusion of post-traumatic stress disorder in the Diagnostic and Statistic Manual IV.
