Los Angeles Philharmonic Association - 2008

Funded in March, 2008: $35000 for 1 years
The Philharmonic received renewed support for its professional development initiative, The Music Education Laboratory.   The Music Education Laboratory is a comprehensive and sequential year-long curriculum for teaching artists and Philharmonic musicians who work in LAPA education programs.  The Laboratory develops the teaching skills of LAPA musicians, teaching artists, and school music specialists, with the primary goal of creating a cohesive faculty that works effectively in classrooms and the community. The program also builds teaching capacity by focusing on presentation skills, partnering with classroom and music teachers, designing and implementing standards-based lessons, engaging students, using teachers' instruments as teaching tools, coaching young musicians, facilitating critical looking and listening, and assessing student work.
