ArtsConnection - 2007
Funded in March, 2007: $40000 for 1 years
The Dana Foundation grant will enable ArtsConnection to offer a mentoring program that supports artists who are becoming educators and creates new professional opportunities for veteran teaching artists. The ten-hour course, for five veteran teaching artists, one from each art form—theater, dance, puppetry, music and visual arts—who are well versed in ArtsConnection's pedagogy, will train these artists to mentor fifteen new teaching artists. In September 2007, mentors will meet with the new artists during ArtsConnection's annual four-day Artist Institute to train together and prepare for a residency in a public school classroom. Over the course of a semester, mentors will meet individually with the artists to engage in a process of mutual observation and debriefing for a total of twelve hours per artist. Throughout the school year, the project directors will meet with the mentors and program managers for five, two-hour sessions to evaluate the program, review progress, record best practices and track program effectiveness.
