Brooklyn Philharmonic

Funded in March, 2006: $25000 for 2 years
With Dana Foundation funding, The Philharmonic will expand its School Residency Initiative, a music education program targeting Brooklyn public schools. The Initiative brings teaching artists into elementary schools for twelve weekly music lessons to help students learn to listen to music in classroom and concert hall performances, build skills that complement the school curriculum, and compose their own music. The expansion includes the development of an intensive two-and-one-half day professional development workshop for teaching artists prior to the Residency, and will complement the Philharmonic's current professional development offerings that take place immediately before, during, and after the residency.
