Mo, this seems to bear out Dr Ramachandran's assertion that what we call "autism" is actually a number of different diseases which show similar symptoms. Rett Syndrome, Aspberger's, and all of the diagnoses which constitute the "autistic spectrum" may need to be teased out one by one for appropriate treatment, but the work you report is very encouraging. 25-30 years ago when I was working direct care in the field, it was "autistic" and very few folks responded to the "treatment" offered, often involving heavy drug treatment that only quieted them, not helping but tranquilizing and possibly easing anxiety. A very interesting and helpful article for those who are and have worked and lived with folks with this difficult issue.
