Science and Health Grants
Science and health grants support research in neuroscience and immunology and their interrelationship in human health and disease. 
  • Brain and Immuno-Imaging: Research on imaging innovations that help reveal how the human brain functions normally, how disorders and injuries alter these functions, and how various therapies affect these conditions. Funded research also can focus on immune cell interactions with brain cells.
  • Clinical Neuroscience Research: Support for "first in humans" studies of patients with devastating brain diseases for which there currently is no effective treatment. Funded researchers set up controlled clinical studies in patients with a specific brain disease, based on promising animal studies suggesting that a specific therapy either treats the condition or prevents it from getting worse.
  • Neuroimmunology: Focus on studies of  immune-based therapies for primary brain tumors and metastases to the brain of other cancers; immune responses to infections in the brain, including viral encephalitis, meningitis, cerebral malaria, and prion diseases; and how the immune system affects the brain and the brain modifies immune function.
  • Human Immunology: Support for Dana Scholars, promising new investigators in patient-based immunology research. One area of particular interest is the brain.
