National Dance Institute - 2008

Funded in March, 2008: $30000 for 1 years
NDI received a Dana grant to provide two additional two-week Teacher Training workshops and o offer more scholarships to attendees of those workshops.  The additional trainings will help NDI expand and enhance their program and enable them to better accommodate the growing number of requests for training from artists and teachers in New York City and across the country. Each workshop will provide 80 instructional hours and will take place in a New York City public elementary school where NDI is leading a residency.  Instructors will guide small groups of trainees as they experience the process of working with children from their first NDI class to a final performance. The performing artists in the training program will discover the fundamentals of the NDI method through guided observation and direct participation in high-energy dance classes.  After completing the workshop, trainees receive ongoing support from NDI’s teaching artists and program staff, who will be available to answer questions and provide guidance. Depending on the career interests, availability, and commitment of workshop graduates, some will be invited to apprentice with NDI’s In-School or Advanced Programs, or with the children’s arts education organizations across the U.S. that are affiliated with ANDI (Associates of National Dance Institute.)
