Los Angeles County Arts Commission - 2008
Funded in March, 2008: $60000 for 1 years
For the sixth consecutive year, The Dana Foundation provided funding to the Arts Commission to build on the first five years of the Professional Artist School-based Training Program. This county-wide training program is the only comprehensive professional development program in Los Angeles County that prepares artists not associated with a performance roster to provide services to schools, and gives administrators the tools to assess the quality of their teaching artists. It directly supports Goal 2 of Arts for All: Los Angeles County Regional Blueprint for Arts Education, the County's 10-year strategic plan providing a series of policy changes and educational initiatives to restore K-12 education in dance, music, theatre and the visual arts, based on the Visual and Performing Arts Standards (VAPA), in each of the County's 80 school districts. The training program will serve two sectors of the community: teaching artists and artists working in an administrative capacity; will help artists gain the knowledge, tools, and skills to effectively work in schools and classrooms; will help artists acquire strategies to develop standards-based curriculum to support the VAPA Standards and Content Standards for English, History, Math and Science; will help artists learn effective evaluation methodologies; and will provide a professional designation in arts education for artists that complete the training.
