Epic Theatre Center - 2007
Funded in March, 2007: $52500 for 2 years
With renewed funding from The Dana Foundation, Epic will expand their Teaching Artists Training Program. This initiative, which will now include a Summer Institute, will expose new teaching artist trainees more fully to the creative side of an Epic residency before they teach the Journeys Series program in public schools. The Journeys Series uses classical plays such as Antigone, The Oresteia, and An Enemy of the People as templates for student investigation of contemporary social issues and examination of the rights and responsibilities of individual citizens in a democracy. Teaching artists chosen to participate in Epic's training have extensive experience in the professional theatre as writers, directors and actors, and are paid to participate in all phases of training.
