Washington Performing Arts Society - 2004

Funded in March, 2004: $30000 for 1 years
The Dana grant will fund the second year of Washington Performing Arts Society's (WPAS) Professional Development Institute, a two-day professional development institute for artists who are involved either with WPAS' Embassy Adoption Program, a partnership with District of Columbia Public Schools whereby embassies are partnered with D.C. public school sixth-grade classes for cultural exchange and enrichment activities; or with WPAS' Concerts In Schools program which provides in-school performances, lecture/demonstrations, and workshops to nearly 100,000 students in the greater Washington, D.C. area. In addition to affording artists the opportunity to hone their teaching skills, the Institute will provide a forum for the development of written curricular guides and lesson plans and a "model for artist/teacher collaboration" that can be used the following and subsequent years to enhance WPAS' in-school programs.
