Arizona Community Foundation

Funded in January, 2008: $50000 for 2 years
In partnership with the Arizona Commission on the Arts, ASSET, a university funded technology portal for public school educators, and the Arizona Department of Education, the Arizona Community Foundation will create a pilot professional learning community for teaching artists, performing arts specialists and classroom teachers in five rural sites in Arizona.  In addition, the project will look at ways to sustain and intentionally expand a broader Arizona rural arts education network. The five sites were selected to participate in the program based on their engagement in prior arts education projects, committed faculty and teaching artists, and receptive school leadership.  At each site the program will be tailored to local assets and needs.  Professional development workshops will occur in concert with ongoing mentoring including classroom modeling, co-teaching and program planning resources. Distance learning resources will be utilized for the distribution of information, participant networking and teaching practice reflection.
