1) The Kenya Brain Bee Championship for High School Students - 76 students participated with Miss Ashley Mwikali of Green Garden's Secondary School emerging the winner of Kenya Brain Bee 2017 2) Neuroanatomy, neurohistology and neurophysiology laboratory tours 3) Keynote address: Ubongo Lecture 2017 (Delivered by the Chief Guest, Professor Isaac Kibwage, Principal College of Health Sciences, University of Nairobi) 4) Career lectures: Host: Dr. Philip Mwachaka Guest speakers: Dr. Ambrose Agweyu (Ubongo Brain Awareness Campaign Founder), Dr. Moses Obimbo and Dr. Peter Kitunguu 5) Special lecture-drugs abuse and the brain. Dr. Boniface Chitayi, Psychiatrist

Which of these publicity methods was most successful?

Emails and mailings - these gave a personal touch. The Secretariat of the Ubongo Brain Awareness Campaign and Brain Bee in Kenya will be using more of social media for advertising to reach a wider audience and more youth


How do you feel BAW participation benefited your organization and the local community?

1) Successfully hosting the Kenya Brain Bee Championship (part of the International Brain Bee Championships) 2) Hands-on laboratory sessions on neuroanatomy, neurohistology and neurophysiology 3) Increasing awareness of neurscience and its importance amongst high school and University students as well as the general public

Please share any suggestions that may help others plan their BAW events:

Fundraising outside of neuroscience institutions - such as private companies and government agencies to increase the scope and encourage greater participation
